AdvertisingHistory of NestleNestl with headquarters in Vevey, Switzerland was founded in 1866 byHenri Nestl and is today the worlds biggest food and beverage family.1866 -1905In the 1860s Henri Nestl, a pharmacist, developed a food for babieswho were unable to breastfeed. His first success was a premature babe who could not tolerate his mothers milk or any of the usualsubstitutes. People quickly recognized the value of the new product,after Nestls new formula saved the childs life, and soon, FarineLacte Henri Nestl was being sold in much of Europe.1905-1918In 1905 Nestl merged with the Anglo-Swiss Condensed Milk Company. Bythe early 1900s, the company was operating factories in the UnitedStates, Britain, Germany and Spain. globe War I created new demand fordairy products in the form of government contracts. By the remainder of thewar, Nestls production had more than doubled.1918 -1938After the war presidency contracts dried up and consumers switchedback to fresh milk. However, Ne stls management responded quickly,streamlining operations and reducing debt. The 1920s saw Nestlsfirst expansion into new products, with chocolate the Companys succor almost important activity1938 -1944Nestl felt the effects of World War II immediately. Profits droppedfrom $20 million in 1938 to $6 million in 1939. Factories were effected in developing countries, particularly Latin America.Ironically, the war helped with the introduction of the Companysnewest product, Nescaf, which was a staple drink of the US military.Nestls production and sales rose in the wartime economy.1944 -1975The end of World War II was the beginning of a dynamic phase forNestl. Growth accelerated and companies were acquired. In 1947 camethe merger with Maggi seasonings and soups. Crosse & Blackwellfollowed in 1950, as did Findus (1963), Libbys (1971) and Stouffers(1973). Diversification came with a shareholding in LOreal in 1974.1975 -1981Nestls growth in the developing world partially offset a slowdown in the Companys traditional markets. Nestl made its second ventureoutside the food industry by acquiring Alcon Laboratories Inc.1981 -1996Nestl divested a number of businesses1980 / 1984. In 1984, Nestlsimproved bottom line allowed the Company to launch a new round ofacquisitions, the most important being American food giant Carnation.The joint venture between Milkpak Ltd. And Nestle S.A. came about in1988 and the company was renamed as Nestle Milkpak Ltd. Prior to that,Milkpak Ltd., produced UHT milk, butter, cream, desi ghee and fruitdrinks at Sheikhupura factory. 21 branded product lines were addedduring 1990 to 1998.Nestle Milkpak operates the largest and an extremely efficient milkcollection system in the country, which enables it to collect the
